Diet Hacks for People with Real Lives by Coach Kelly
Oh you don’t have a personal chef? But you do have 3 kids, a full time job and no cooking skills? No problem!
I know you’ve heard about meal planning and meal prep, but I’m going to give you the 4 things I do every week to ensure we eat well.
As a side note – in the first year-plus after Evelyn was born we just ordered the weekly Paleo meals from the Root Cellar. As a Local member, you get 20% off and you just literally have to order them, pick them up and heat them in the oven. Done!
Okay, back to what I do now that I get 10 minutes to myself, sometimes, on some of the days.
- Take 15 minutes (max!) with a couple of your favorite cookbooks/cooking blogs. On a notepad-like app, make a list of what recipes you’re making on what night with a link to each. I choose one or two nights to use the Crock-Pot (See photos)
- Make a separate list of all the ingredients you’ll need. Go ahead an splurge and plan to get the pre-prepped foods (sliced onions, diced green peppers) because the slight charge is worth not having to chop veggies while your toddler is taking her diaper off and chasing the dog around the house.
- Use an online grocery ordering app from Harris Teeter (there’s one less than 5 mins from the gym) or Wal-Mart and add all those ingredients to your cart. Do this during your rest sets. No, seriously (this is how I multi-task). Bonus: you avoid impulse buys at the store and keep junk from ever coming into your house!
- Pick groceries up later that day or the next (they’ll even load them in your car so if you finally have sleeping toddler you won’t have to wake them)! Bon appetit!
